Duplicate category

[Hlela umthombo]

Another category exists, Category:Umlando waseNingizimu Afrika. Which one has the correct name? Only one can be linked to Wikidata item d:Q6953930. When the correct name is decided, the following actions need to be taken:

  • Change the category in each page to the correct category name
  • When the unused category is empty, make it a #REDIRECT page with a link to the correct category name
  • Put the correct category name into the Wikidata item d:Q6953930

I'll watch this page for the answer. -- Deborahjay (talk) 00:07, 10 uLwezi 2017 (UTC)Reply

It would be correct to say Umlando waseNingizimu Afrika. Can the newly created category be moved to the older one Category:Umlando waseNingizimu Afrika?Njabulo19 (talk) 11:30, 10 uLwezi 2017 (UTC)
Done. To see my edits that performed the necessary changes when the two category names already exist (i.e., this is not a Move):
  • Go to Amanikelo ami (top of any page, second choice from the right).
  • In the large box "Search for contributions," second line "IP address or username" - replace your own User name with mine:Deborahjay.
  • You can click and open each of the pages or categories and see the edits and their effects.
  • Click on the #REDIRECT for the correct category (it's a blue internal link). In the left navigation bar, under "Amathuluzi" at the bottom, click on "Wikidata item." (The rejected category won't have one - only one page or category per topic can have an "interwiki link" to an item in Wikidata.) At the lower left of the Wikidata item, you'll see all the other language versions - this is what makes them all appear on a page or category on the lower left, the bottom of the navigation bar, under "Ngezilimi ezinahlukene." This is an extremely important function for accessing information - about the topic and also about Wikipedia in other language versions.
When you want to create a new category, it would really help me if you add in the Edit summary the meaning in English, as close as you can translate it. This way I'll find and link the Wikidata item as soon as possible. -- Deborahjay (talk) 14:27, 10 uLwezi 2017 (UTC)Reply
The version I am using of Wikipedia does not have any tools under Ngezilimi Ezahlukene this is because javascript has been disabled. I would like to add the summary after I create the category, but I cannot create it. I have been trying to create it now but I cannot find the way to create it, I would really appreciate if you could really help. Njabulo19 (talk) 16:37, 10 uLwezi 2017 (UTC)Reply
To clarify: The way I see a Wikipedia page, using my laptop computer and the Chrome browser (not the Wikipedia mobile app), there's a vertical column on the left side of the screen whose content is links to other pages. (I call this a "navigation bar"; some names are in isiZulu, some are in English.) For a page that has no Wikidata link or there are no other language versions linked to the page topic or Category - the last heading is "Languages." For a page or category with an "interwiki" link on a Wikidata item for that topic - the heading switches to "Ngezilimi ezahlukene" (IsiNgisi: In other languages) and lists links to all those other pages, in alphabetical order of the language name. Do you ever edit Wikipedia from the regular site, not the mobile app? -- Deborahjay (talk) 18:20, 11 uLwezi 2017 (UTC)Reply
I edit from a computer and mobile browser (Opera Mini) via Freebasics website. I think tools you are referring to have been disabled for the Freebasics website. Njabulo19 (talk) 20:08, 13 uLwezi 2017 (UTC)Reply
As I have little technical knowledge, I suggest you contact the most knowledgeable user I know "here". You're fresh on his radar!" (See User talk:Njabulo19#Thanks!. I'll watch for more info. -- Deborahjay (talk) 20:21, 13 uLwezi 2017 (UTC)Reply
Well, I'm not that good at technological knowledge, either. Possibly Free Basics, provides a simpler version of Wikipedia. In the first line of the screen of the cell phone, after your name, has the word Beta, when entering it there are a series of options, try to change them. I'll talk to someone else and if I have any suggestions, I'll come back. DARIO SEVERI (talk) 01:22, 14 uLwezi 2017 (UTC)Reply
