Project status

[Hlela umthombo]

Rather than continuing this discussion on our User talk pages, I've revived the Wikipedia talk:Community forum page, making Zulu (via Google Translate) the main language plus a sentence-by-sentence English translation in italics. As long as I and other non-Zulu speakers are regular contributors here and we'll be recruiting native speakers to the project, I'm willing to keep this up. Based on recent discussions (see content of User talk:Deborahjay#Queries from User:Metrónomo) and my contributions here since late July, I suggest a current focus as follows:

Categories and pages

[Hlela umthombo]

Coordinator: User:Deborahjay

  • Years with Events, Births, Deaths
  • People by country and occupation
  • Countries including capitals and cities
  • Portals to clean up and improve

Stubs and templates for ZU WP

[Hlela umthombo]

Coordinator: User:Metrónomo (If you agree?!)

Goals for 2018

[Hlela umthombo]
  • Maintain a project status report and dialogue at the Wikipedia talk:Community forum page
  • Adding stub pages in categories on South Africa topics - geography and people - based on the English Wikipedia, to include
    • Lead paragraph, EN>ZU (at least by machine translation), proper formatting and wikified with internal links
    • A geo-template and specific (i.e., region, occupation) stub template
    • Infobox from enwp if available (in localized version with Zulu labels)
    • Image from Wikimedia Commons (if no Infobox)
    • Wikidata item, giving an interwiki link to existing pages as models for future translation to Zulu.
  • Prepare a further development plan
  • Report to m:Wikimedia South Africa and ask for advice on increasing Zulu-speakers participation and other resources.

Please review the above and edit as you see fit. I'd like this on the Community forum so it's easily accessible, but appreciate getting your input first. -- Cheers, Deborahjay (talk) 15:58, 12 uZibandlela 2017 (UTC)[reply]
